How to draw 2
Welcome back to some basic drawing lessons. When you look at this, it seems pretty traditional, and it is! The difference might be how I approach the development of the drawing, and I will try to articulate some points I have not yet seen as clearly stated elsewhere. Drawing is the expression of form. It is important to have the whole form in mind straight away and not be distracted by detail. That means, to me, that the important lines should be put down first, to indicate t

What is it about this old steel mill?
I keep returning to this now derelict old steel production site. There is something about the complex shapes and signs of rust and wear I find very interesting. I guess that is fairly common for artists, to favour older, more worn objects (and ditto people...?). The local steel mill, painted in gouache, July 2026. About 2,5-3 hrs. 20cmx15cm This is the same mill as below, from a different viewpoint. People would come up to me as I was drawing to have a look and comment. One

How to draw
"Drawing is the expression of form". This is quoting from Harold Speeds "The practice and science of drawing" (1917). This determines how you approach drawing. The last year and a half the implications have started to dawn on me and I think my drawing is improving a lot because of it! I would like to share my thoughts on this in a few posts. Markers and caricatures
A couple of Norwegian "super-celebrities" I drew recently. You may recognize them :) The image quality is a bit rough as I wanted to post them quickly. Basically they are drawn with markers (and before that, pencil) and colored with color pencils, which does not scan very well...Any way, I had fun with these and find this a quick and effective way of working. The line work is the most important here. The approach to the drawing is fairly methodical. I try to capture the head

Paradise
This is a spot at one of the rivers nearby, which has been dubbed "Paradis" or paradise by the locals. I guess it needs no explanation. The waterfall is popular for jumping into from the top ledge. At your own risk... I caught the right light here, showing the structure of the cliff. Also, the september colors are lovely. This was a comissioned work, 60cm by 110cm, painted in acrylics. To me, it feels like a step forward in painting landscapes.
