This time of the year (beginning of October) is beautiful with all the shades of yellow, orange and red taking over from the green. An artist is spoilt for choice. This is from a lake nearby, done in gouache in a 12cm x 21cm sketchpad. Of course my painting does not do it justice, and the photo/scan fades the colors even more but at least it's an impression. Oil is the medium to use in the fall I guess. In this study (which i think took about an hour) I tried to get the big shapes of hills right, a good sense of the forest covering and a greater intensity of color in the foreground. The difference in hue in the lake and the sky was also interesting.
