Four pages from last years sketch book. Gouache study of my local steel mill (closed down) marker study of wild sheep, pencil and color pencil study of tree and stone (two favourite things to draw) and a pencil study of a river.
In this last one I tried to be conscious of the form, and tried to understand the light and shadow by thinking of the trees and rocks as combinations of the four basic forms in the top right corner. It is strange how you keep re-discovering the basic elements of your craft, and how important and useful the basic forms are. How easy it is to get a grasp of light, shadow and perspective for instance. And those how-to-draw books you read as a child are right, - you can use these shapes to draw anything!
I want to share a lot more about discovering and re-discovering drawing. Any way, it's been too long now without a new post. Will try to do better.
