Terror bird

This is meant to be the South American terror bird "Kelenken". It lived about 15 million years ago, and the animal it has killed is called Astrapotherium. Hopefully this is not too brutal. The bit of blood in the corner actually helps the composition in echoing the red feathers and creating a nice curve through the front leg of the astrapothere and into the faint clouds over the mountains. I wanted to post this because i think it works well as a simple painting (acrylics) with a kind of reverse "L" shape and the big and small bird balancing the picture. My scanner keeps dulling the colors, but this time I think it turned out to my advantage, as I wanted a more subdued palette... My fascination with prehistoric animals and near-prehistoric illustration techniques is undiminished.
